Dawn's tape and book were cool, think it was 75 Sizzling Licks, or something. She applies the licks to songs, also. The first lick was an ST lick, as I recall. I dropped the VHS to disc for ease of use. Dawn was a picker.
I would settle for cooler Licks. Actually if put into a familiar song context, that would be really helpful.
You may like this product. I think it is pretty good for what it is a collection of mix and match licks that work over a given chord.
Brad Davis Impov Mando book
If you can read standard this book is chock full o' good stuff:
Hot Licks for Bluegrass Fiddle
Raymond has some good, applied licks in his book, found here. He also has made available transcribed solos of many of his awesome mandolin/guitar solos. Check it out.

Bought this recently. What a mistake! Should have been titled 'Dull & Worthless Licks'. This is a very disappointing collection of licks. Few of them are interesting at all. Few are memorable. It doesn't sound like a real mandolin player on the disc. It is not at all inspiring. But since I already spent my money on this lame book, I am treating the licks as just simply finger exercise. Playing these licks will still improve my playing and help build some reading skills. But once I finish the book out, I doubt if I'll open it again.
