Default Mistake in Classifieds Re "Clark" mando

Elderly posted an "Austin Clark" mandolin but in the full description, it says Bruce Clark.

Bruce makes great mandolins, but they are different from Austin's mandolins.

Buyers should just be aware and read carefully.

I notified Elderly of their error.

    Phil,

I noticed this too, as I have had one of Bruce's mandos, and it was very nice, but was also not one of Austin's, for sure.

    Excellent. I love this place.

Thanks for calling this to our attention. In fact, the label says it was made by Bruce Clark, and Bruce has confirmed that for us. Not sure why you think we posted it as "Austin Clark" as we don't think we have done that.

While investigating this we noted that there was an error in the pricing of this mando and it is now up at a much more reasonable $3500. http://elderly.com/vintage/items/90U-5773.htm

That $3500 number is WAY better that $5k. That Bruce Clark mando is a cannon, narrow neck, ok build, but great tone. I had one built in the same batch, and it was nice, but I didn't like the neck. It was narrow.......and I am wide! The mando was great, but I wasn't ready.

Bruce is making some great mandolins. Since the end of last year he has changed some of his graduations. He received some guidance from Will Kimble who lives nearby. His varnish reminds me of Will's.

I had heard he was perfecting his craft. I think the one at Elderly's is maybe one of the first 12(?) Bruce bulit. Bruce is a serious wood craftsman(Bows, gun stocks etc.), but mandos take practice like anything else. The guy has a great headstart on the craft, though.

FYI to all. Bruce Clark IS making some great mandolins. Over the last year or so he has changed both his graduations and the name of his mandolins.

His mandolins are now called "Nichols Road" mandolins. Here is his web site and believe me these are powerful mandolins -- there are videos on the site. IMO for the sound they make they are indeed worth the price asked.

If you check the original classified posting, you will see that the HEADING of the ad was "Austin Clark Mandolin". The body of the ad did indeed speak of Bruce Clark as the maker.
Thanks for your quick action to correct the mistake.
