    Default Come On Mandeileen

Sitting here in Virginia listening to Hurricane Irene (and my generator thanks to that same evil witch ) and got to thinking about the song, Come On Eileen by Kevin Rowland and Dexy's Midnight Runners. A little searching found the orginal music video on Youtube but then I also found this mandolin version of the song. Will have to put this on the long list of songs I want to play on the mandolin.

Hang in there Bob! We are high and dry and safe here in MT...where we apparently don't even have mosquitos anymore..

Of course, we'll have our turn when Yellowstone blows..

Um, not to be insensitive or anything, but shouldn't you be playing Goodnight Irene instead? I mean, Eileen is a different storm!

Just taking a few liberties with the title and lyrics - "Come on Irene" fits the occasion.

Well witchever... hope she leaves you well enough alone. I once had a woman try to eliminate me from the face of the planet, and I know it's no picnic.

I'm sitting here with a glass of cabarnet watching Lawrence Welk celebrate his 65th b"day (albeit, with the sound muted and Mingus playing on the stereo)...and I got out my squeezebox and squeezed off a couple of tunes with thoughts of you all...

Just came across this while searching for soundclips of Gibson A1's on SoundCloud. I figured someone had probably posted about it here, but I had to bump the thread anyway because it's so good!

Necro-thread lives! (thread started in 2011)

Nice revive Loess, especially since that link to the Mando tune that was linked in the original post still works... and is still pretty sweet. Thanks

    Well #&@%!!

I came back to listen to that tune again and it has stopped working.

I wish I had written down who it was that recorded it.

Oh no, we broke it! Well for the time being at least, you can still access it at Google's cached version of the page.

    Thanks folks!

With a little Google-Fu I've found that it is still live on SoundCloud at https://soundcloud.com/spatrickobrie...-on-mandeileen

The account name was changed at some point but the song remains the same

Great rendition! I fondly remember Hurricanes Irene and Sandy. Didn't play much mandolin for those several days!

Absolutely bloody brilliant! Excuse my British. But the craftsmanship that went into this, the attention to detail, the inclusion of every little riff and hook, melody line and counterpoint - all very impressive. And this guy isn't even a member, as far as I can tell. He should be found and extended a membership. He clearly has his act together.

I've always loved this song, and the rest of the album, too. He really did it proud. Thanks, rgray, for finding it, and Eddie, for bumping it up. I don't know how I missed it before. So glad I caught it now.

Interesting fact - If you watched the SuperBowl the other night, you may have seen a commercial for Sleeping Tapes by Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski). Well, the guy performing Come On Eileen on mando was the engineer and mixer for those tapes.
