    Default The Deseret Mandolin

    Hi!
I have owned an F-style mandolin for a few years named "The Deseret". It was made by one of the proprietors of "The Intermountain Guitar and Banjo" shop in Salt Lake City. Probably made in the '70s. Anybody ever seen one of these in their travels?
    Regards, Matt

I remember seeing one, an A-6(!) called the Hoot Gibson Grand Canyon model. Leo Coulsen was the perp. His bandmate Hal Cannon was the owner. Leo is half-owner of Intermountain and does this sort of thing once in awhile.

Leo was also in the seminal Deseret String Band sating way back to the ancient 1970s. Somewhere I have their LP and they were possibly the only band I knew from Utah.

I have a friend who lives down the road who owns an A model. It was built by Kennard Machol, who is the other nard at Intermountain Guitar. ---Leonard and Kennard.

Leonard and Kennard, partners in crime. (Leonard now prefers to be called Leo.)
