Has anyone ever heard anything by Songs: Ohia?

Very interesting indie-folk-rock with some nice (if sparse) mando content. His "didn't it rain" features mando on most songs. I think he plays a tenor guitar (sometimes electric) on most too.

He's lable mates with The Danielson Familie and Sufjan Stevens. Also Worth checking out (no mando tho).

Okkervil River is another good band in this category, and they use the mandolin pretty frequently, especially on their second album, "Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See"
