Default David Gilmour - Picks Mandolin Outside the Wall

Yesterday marked one of only 4 times that (the remaining) members of Pink Floyd have reunited on stage since their less than amicable break up. It's a shame what music the masses lose out on when uber talented Millionaires just can't get along.

As part of his extensive World Tour, Roger Waters kicked off a 6 night run of the Wall at the 02 Arena in London yesterday with David Gilmour playing his epic Comfortably Numb Solo from atop the Wall.

A really good pal of mine had VIP Backstage Passes and primo seats for this gig in London yesterday and confirmed for me that for the last number, "Outside the Wall," Gilmour came out playing Mandolin - as it somewhat vaguely shows in the picture within the link below.... I imagine Gilmour could probably play the heck out of a mandolin, but probably not at the same skill level as John Paul Jones or Jimmy Page...
Incidentally, Drummer Nick Mason played Tambourine for this last song.

This was so great to see!
Pink Floyd has meant so much to me for so many years.
Thank you so much for posting.
However, I must say that the absence of Richard Wright made me very sad. Wright was so pivotal to everything that was Pink Floyd. Musically, I miss him terribly.

Thanks for the link. Gilmour is by far my favorite rock guitarist of all time, with so many memorable solos -- including two nice extended solos that song alone.

Looks like Gilmour is playing some '70s Korean-made mandolin-shaped-object-of-a-highly-disposable-nature, and Smith has an Eastwood Mandocaster:

It's kind of funny when you see someone holding an Eastwood, which gives it a better visual reference in terms of scale. I always liked them when when photographed on their own, but when someone is holding one, they transform from cool to cute - lol

Hard to choose a favorite, but Time is right up there at the top. Also, Dogs, Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Comfortably Numb.

All great! I also really like his version of "There's No Way Out of Here" from his first solo album. Wonderful. The man is a legend.

"Funky Dung" from Atom Heart Mother really hits his blues roots hard.

I thought at first it was a third mando, but at the very end of the video he caught some light and it looked then like a ukelele.

GE Smith looks like Skeletor or one of the lost Rice Brothers.
