Thread: New bridge for Eastman 504

Default New bridge for Eastman 504

Thought I'd share a modification which has significantly increased the volume of my Eastman 504. A luthier suggested that I change bridges for better overall sound. The wood is blackwood. The bottom has to be carefully sanded to meet the contours of the mandolin body. The top is bone (I think) and was angled by the luthier. Doesn't look as pretty as the original but there is a definite improvement in sound.

Glad that you're happy with the sound. How will you adjust the action in the future?

I think it looks better than the oringinal. Those little wheels bother me and look too mechanical. I've been thinking of a Red Henry bridge for my 505, but I would like to stain it dark to "blend in" a bit better. Nice mod.
