(sorry if this is in the wrong section, couldn't quite figure out where it's supposed to go)
Today I started to mess with the BDDDDD tuning for Iris on my guitar and I've actually settled for BBDDAD tuning because I felt it sounded better.
To the point... I want to learn the mandolin part of this song but I'm having trouble hearing most of what the mandolinist is doing. There is an acoustic session version where you can clearly hear what the guitar is doing (because it's the only instrument), but there's no such thing for the mandolin.
Has anybody attempted this song before, and if so, could that somebody please help me on my way?
I too have been working on this song... and you are absolutely right that it is difficult to hear the mandolin part. there is a tab here http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/g/go...ndolin_tab.htm that has some of the parts tabbed. from what I can hear they are at least somewhat accurate.
this is one of my favorite songs to play on mandolin! Ive been learning the guitar chords to play on the mandolin as I am not nearly as gifted with the guitar.
Great song! I hope you are enjoying it!
The little licks after the verses seem accurate (they sound correct to me), but I find the intro to be very hard to hear in the original song.
This is also the tab I stumbled upon a while ago.I have it sorted on guitar though - it shouldn't be too hard and I wouldn't mind helping you out with it.
Just let me know & thanks.
Ran across this excellent in-depth interview with session guitarist Tim Pierce, who played the mandolin part on "Iris", about his involvement with the song. He discusses the mandolin part, shows how it's played, and mentions that it was done on a Flatiron. If this Reverb listing is legit, it seems he played the part on a Flatiron 1N - pretty cool!
Here is another video of Tim Pierce talking about playing the part. The interviewer of this one is a mandolin player who also has a video lesson on playing it on a mandolin.
