Seems they probably run a string manufacturing division, & have for decades..
though they likely buy the materials from wire mills, contracted as suppliers.
string winding machines are not as huge a machine as steel wire producers need.

i've only replaced a busted "e" string - the rest remain "on call" - how do they (gibson) compare with d'addario j74's?
Martin does make strings in house. At least they did a few years ago when I toured their factory.
I believe that Martin bought Darco quite a few years ago. Gibson, I am not sure -- they may outsource, tho they have sold strings under their name for many years.
