    Default american pie-don mclean

    is there any way to play this with chords on the mandolin so that it sounds right? all the guitar chords i find sound like something's missing when i play them on the mandolin...

    I don't know the verses well, but for the chorus I would use:

    0-0-5-x for G, 5-2-3-x for C, then 0-0-2-x for G again, then 7-4-0-x for D. This follows the melody. Either 4-2-2-(0) for E minor, or 4-3-2-(0) followed by 6-2-0-(0) for A major, E min again, then maybe 2-0-0-x for the final D major (or the earlier 7-4-0).
