Thread: Vega Cylinder Back or Lute Mandolin Family

Default Vega Cylinder Back or Lute Mandolin Family

The "family" photos from the Music Emporium site are so special that I think they're worth preserving here. Note that there is also a Vega CB Group here at the Cafe, with more photos. I love these instruments for their unique and lovely tone, their absolutely top-notch craftsmanship and materials, and the 'can-do!' attitude that led the luthiers of that time to radically redesign so many musical instruments. It was Orville Gibson's, similarly enthusiastic confidence that brought us the 'American' mandolin in the first place!

Maybe it's time for some Boston-based players to re-create Giuseppe Pettinne's Vega-endorsing ensemble from the early 20th c. Pictured here in watercolor by Tracy Bigelow Grisman. (she has a lovely web site of her work, that you can easily search out)
