    Default "High Hopes" mandolin tab?

You know the one, "he's got high apple pie in the sky hopes..."

Anyone got a single-note picking tab for it?

Otherwise looking for ABBA's "The Way Old Friends Do" in another thread too.

Maybe somebody can tell me otherwise...is it sufficient to just take any standard notation (if you can't read standard notation) and convert it to mandolin tab directly (based on placement of notes in other known tab)? Or is there more to it than that?

You could use this as a guide to convert your Standard notation to TAB.

You can also use this to learn the fingerboard and ultimately standard notation.

Thanls Jamie. So it IS just a direct conversion then?

I've just been using sheet music that has both tab and standard notation, finding the right note on the standard and looking to see where it fell on the tab.

But when I do do this...it never sounds right.

I most recently tried this with standard notation (for quitar, not tab) for "Fast Car" by Tracey Chapman. So far it doesn't sound any good.

Be sure you are using the flats and sharps and naturals correctly.

On my sheet above the staff you'll see a 1, 2, 3, and 4. Those are the notes for an open string on the G, D, A, and E strings respectively. It's slow at first and you'll make some mistakes (at least I did) the first few times you transcribe standard to tab but, with practice and revision, you'll get there.

Yes - Also, on Jamie's sheet, on the blank tab bar under the letters, one could place two tab dots for each letter (except B & E): one for the note above, and another for that note's sharp.

Then one would have a sort of "standard notation to tab dictionary" with the standard notation above, and the tab below.

This is what I plan on doing.

I may as well add these too. They are music sheets with a standard staff and tab staff and a tab only staff so you can write out your own stuff. I made them in Powerpoint years ago. You can probably buy them at any music store too.
