ID:	63814This is the latest Elkhorn F-5 to come off the bench. I was going for the look and patina of a lovingly used (not abused) vintage instrument. The varnish I used lends toward that look (as far as the yellowing effect on the binding),and the satin hand rubbed finish helps also. Some times instruments just want to look a certain way and this one wanted to look vintage. Thanks for checking it out.

That's a fine looking mandolin Robb! I also really dig the flower pot-fern inlay, very cool. What are the specs on this one?

I really like the burst. Very Loarish with the nice distiguishing differences of the satin and black buttons.

Any chance of a sound clip or video of this one? Or a description of the sound of it?

This mandolin turned out to be exceptional tonally! It has a very dry woody tone to it; it's quite open for being as new as it is. The chop is very strong; the Adirondack top gives it a great pop! The mids are clear as a bell and the upper register is quite nice also. I'm working on getting a recording of it so I can get the sound out there so everyone can hear it. Thanks again for all the nice comments. Thanks to Scott also for giving us all such a great resource to have and use to learn about all this good mandolin stuff!

I own Elkhorn #11, It is my only mandolin, and I use it on the road everyday. It is solid from one end to the other. I would encourage anyone to check out these mandolins. I have been able to play several of them and all have been really good and very consistent in sound and craftsmanship. I have owned many different mandolins in the much higher price range, and this mandolin is right up there with all I have owned. I am open for questions about Elkhorn mandolins if anyone wants to contact me.

    Thanks,
