Just got this CD (bought the LP when it came out must be 30 years ago), simply great. Doc and Merle Watson, Johnny Cash, Jerry Douglas. Hot pickin, Marty plays a lot of mandolin on it. And O, them boots!

Marty Stuart has it going on.

I wish I could get his TV show or could manage to catch him live sometime. Extremely talented picker, multi-instrumentalist, can sing, is funny, has good hair, but mostly because he's always seemed to love country music, revere it's history, and honor the musicians. I love his compilation of duets (Compadres), especially the ones with George Jones, Johnny Cash, Steve Earl, Earl Scruggs, and Black Crow Medicine Show.

I'll have myself a listen next time I'm on iTunes . . . once I get the home computer back up.

His weekly show on RFD-TV (Saturdays @ 8 am EST) is a highlight and a fitting cap to my week. IMO, he is one of the finest individuals out there in country & bluegrass entertainment land and his list of famous friends in country music, living and past, is legend. And Connie is the frosting on the cake.

If you cannot watch his shows there is a 4 hour DVD with the highlights of the first year of the Marty Stuart Show. Its a great summary of the season too!

I've got that old album around here somewhere... does he do Southern Flavor on that?

Nope. He does pick Watson's Blues on it, with none other than Doc hisownself playing guitar.

As the story goes Johnny Cash was the first to carve his initials, uninvited, into Marty's F-5 and it wasn't exactly appreciated either at the time. Since then many more names have been added.
