Thread: Half Double back

  1. #1

    Default Half Double back

I am going to ask the builder to make me a mandolin with a half double back
Basically it would be a wooden ToneGuard glued to the sides

I have seen it done mandolins with double tops and I think I have seen some with double backs
But I have never seen a half double back

My roundback mandolins have arm rests that go all around the tail

    Thanks

Double back like some classic guitars. Two backs separated by a narrow space. This would be a second back that only covered half of the body. Would work just like a toneguard.

    This is my mandola
It is what I had in mind
But instead of an armrest it would be a toneguard or half a double back

    Thanks

Selmer Guitars, the Big sound hole ones, had an interior baffle doubling the back and a ski tip like bend to it . [pictures seen]
one supposes , to direct sound outboard a bit better.. Saga left that out from what I see, in their copies.

of course like Virzis thats part of the build before the back goes on.
