L'Espirit Manouche by Derek Sebastian/other good gypsy book recs?

i'm thinking about ordering this book....

though it's is written for gtr it does have standard notation as well as tab.

looks like a good one...anyone familiar or have any experience w this book?

i think i'm also gonna get a book of transcribed Grappeli solos "Stephane Grappeli Gypsy Jazz Violin" that also looks at his signature phrases and licks.

The Klipus book on Grappeli is good. Instead of the guitar book, I would look at "Getting Into Gypsy Jazz Violin" by Martin Norgaard.
It covers the same type of material (on lead playing), but the fingering patterns work without tranlation.

so how would you compare those two violin books then...is there much overlap?

The Grappeli book has a section at the start about technique/style. Then has several annotated solos.
The Norgaard book is more of an instructional course. It takes you through several songs while introducing
improvisational concepts. If I had to get one, I would go with it. To learn the style, either transcribe
the source or get the Grappeli book.
