Lots of bluegrass stuff and pickers in the area.
Check Pammy Davis' organization, be sure to join - you'll receive a monthly newsletter with more doings than can possibly be done.

I used to live in Winston-Salem, Burlington, and Greensboro--not at the same time of course--great music scene throughout the Piedmont--plus if you are willing to drive on to the Triangle you'll find none stop music. My parents still live in Gboro and went to visit--missed Sam Bush performing for free at a local restaurant by day
I have been gone so long that I don't know what type of local jams there are but I am sure there are plenty- NC offers a little of everything--the good, bad, and ugly--but I do miss her.
Hope all goes well for you!
Yea, get on the High Lonesome Strings email list, more things in the area than a person could do. I go to a few festivals in Central NC and VA, plenty to pick from. Shoot me an email if you get into town and want to play some fiddle tunes. If you want to come to what many consider the "Superbowl" picking event, you'll have to plan to make it out to the Galax Fiddlers Convention in Aug (register ahead of time if you want to get a camping spot; email me for details if you plan to bring in your camper, it's kind of an ordeal getting in, but worth it).
(tkdboyd, how's it going? I haven't seen you folks in a while, I should give them a call. Say hey next time you make it out here.)
While I got you guys on here, I have to find a good campground that will let me rent by the month and wont charge me a house payment. One place wanted 900 a month! Any leads would be appreciated.

Man, that's a tough one. When we arrived here 5 years ago, in our 5th wheel, we spent a few days at the only campground close to town, the Greensboro campground off I-40. Everything else was, and I think still is, way outside the city, and all of them tend to be way out in the rural and/or mountainous areas. Nothing really comes to mind other than what I can look up on Google maps. Hagan Stone Park is really nice, fair piece South of GB, and they have a lot a bluegrass happenings there, but I have no idea if they do monthly site rentals. The nearby lakes are nice too, like Belews lake (pronounced "Blues"), but they tend just to accomodate permanent (yearly) site rental.
Thanks Mark, I checked on Greensboro campground, I can rent an apartment for what they want. Hagen Stone is where me and the family will be staying on the 12 and 13th of july while on our way to Myrtle Beach. Looks nice but for an extended stay I will need septic hook up and wifi. I will check into Belews lake. Found one about 30 miles north of the airport called Dan River, not very scenic but within my budget although I would like to be closer. Oak Hollow in High Point wants 30 a night regardless of how long you stay. I could buy a house for that much! Thanks for the info.

Well, I will be staying at Dan River Campground. They seem real nice. It is a bit farther than I was wanting to commute to work but couldn't find anything closer. I will need to find a church and some bluegrass friends soon to keep me busy when not at work. Don't like being away from my wife and kids.

Be sure and make the Galax, VA Fiddler's Convention the 2nd weekend in August every year. The oldest and still the largest running ole time and bluegrass event in the area. You should be able to drive to and from on that one. Just keep up with Pammy's list of picking in the area. From there you should be able to locate the nearby jams.

Can't provide any info for you, but want to wish you the best of luck! Hopefully Sue & the girls will be able to move down soon.

Are the jam sessions still going on in Liberty...... Also, as far north as Dan River Campground is (if that's the one I'm thinking of) it might be worth making the run up to Mt. Airy as well.

You've got until the 13th to send in a registration form for competing at Galax, which is your ticket for getting into the park to camp. Costs nothing to register, forms are online, so do it, come on in, you'll meet more pickers than you can imagine.
Churches, there's one on every corner... pickers, one behind every bush. Got you covered for those.
awesome guys thanks. Leaving on the 30th for Greensboro. Should have my evenings off for a while during training. Feel free to contact me anytime.
