Thread: 11 16 24 38 Mandola strings

    Default 11 16 24 38 Mandola strings

Has anyone tried strings as light as this on a 16.5" mandola tuned CGDA?
I have a bowlback mandola that I would like to try some light strings on
Have some old heavy strings on it (they are all wound) and it is tuned down to FCGD

Been fooling with the string tension calculator and it seems this would work well

    Thanks

I've used GHS PF 258 strings on my H scale Mandola for a while, they are fairly light at that scale length/pitch set.

44, 32, 22, 12, the 12 is plain, the other 6 phosphor bronze wound .... and they are long enough .

[that 2nd G(D) and 1st D(A) may come up short if you use a mandolin (x) set to get those diameters]

    For what it's worth, the Thomastik flatwounds are also close at 013w 019w 028w 045w. JD13 Jazzdolas are 013w 022w 033w 043w.
