    Default The Time Jumpers

I heard this group on Larry's Country Diner yesterday and immediately downloaded their CD from Amazon. This is a group of musicians that sat around backstage at the Opry playing and finnaly got togeather one night a week at a local resturant. They play a mixture of Western Swing and Jazz and all of it is really good....O.K....GREAT!!

There are about 10 of them ( shortly to be joined by Vince Gill ) and Ranger Doug is keeping them tight with his guitar. There is nothing better than hearing real pros play music.

What a great band! There is an hour long show that PBS airs every once in a while featuring the Time Jumpers that's not to be missed. Here's a video of the earlier version of the band with Carolyn Martin singing and the late, great John Hughey on steel guitar:

One of my favorite bands...All they need is an electric mandolin to be complete!

Actually, Vince Gill is playing with them now and while I was in the very back of the Station Inn when I saw them in April I'm 90% sure he was playing an electric mando. Seriously...I was in the very back corner by the door, and he only played it on one song...but it had to be an electric mando. And, if you didn't know, Vince is an amazing guitar player. Best $10 I ever spent on a concert. I think he is playing with them each week as long as he is not on tour.

I agree with Taurodont. Get the DVD. John Hughey's steel playing is super. Just a great bunch of musicians and singers.
