    New instrument, made to look old and beat-up. If done well it makes a mando look vintage. If done poorly, it makes a mando look like a dog's dinner.

    Google "reliced guitar" and you'll get the idea of what a distressed mandolin might be....

    When it becomes a transitive verb!

    Anyways I've seen plenty of instruments for sale that had honest playwear, scratches, dings and rubs on it (not artificially made) and the seller advertises the instrument as "distressed" LOL!
