And your playing, Ali, certainly NEVER sounds dull, regardless of register! I rest my case ;-)
In my own (bowed) training, the "neutral" position of the bow, i.e. when playing an open string, was (approximately) the node at the double-octave-and-a-fifth of the string. That, theoretically, would be a B, two octaves and a fifth above the open E-course on a mandolin. Or, simply put... around the center of the sound-hole ;-)
But the most important choices pertain not so much to any one picking-spot, but to the artistic use of multiple ones, as Ali so eloquently explains it all. OK, time to put all this into practice...
