Default This Nashville Cat is shopping for a Mandolin this weekend !

I'm fired up. I expect to make a choice on a mandolin this weekend in Nashville. Gonna shop Gruhns, Big Joe's and Cottens.

We're also going to do the Grand Ole Opry combo package and make a weekend out of this.

    Wish me luck!

    Hey Beck, Good Luck
I did the same thing last year at this time. Had a wonderfull time. We meet DC Blood, Restless Heart and Mike Compton while there.
Went to the Opry and the CMHF. Dont forget to got to the Gibson shop in the Opryland Mall. I started a Thread on here when I went, I ended up buying a mandolin from a cafe-er from Va. after we got back tho..I got to play some really nice mandolins there and I was thrilled to here what a nice one sounds like, can't do that much round here. Have fun...........You will

    Oh-And keep us posted

Yeah, I agree with you. I mean, there's a few instruments in Nashville don't you think? Although I've been skunked before looking for other instruments on trips. I shopped in Pigeon Forge, TN last weekend and there is a Collings MF Custom with a gloss top that caught my attention at Smoky Mtn Guitars. I'd be perfectly happy with it if I don't find anything in Nashville.

    Thanks, Beck

Beck, do me a favor? Buy the Randy Wood at Big Joe's before I go to Nashville at the end of May. Thanks, man.

That's the biggest candidate for me. Several folks on this board have recommended it. I plan on stopping there first.

Next time you are around Pigeon Forge, venture UP 66 a little ways to another HUGE music store and have a gander at all they have to offer. Can't miss it, it is on the southbound side of 66 just north of Seiverville. They sell everything there and have truck loads of antique instruments all over the walls for decoration and behind glass cases. The store has a huge guitar and banjo on the front pickin porch. They sell everything from autoharps to xlyphones.
If it ain't got at least 3 strings on it, it ain't worth playing.

Just sittin back, pickin and grinnin!

Thank you AMY RAY for giving me an interest in mandolin and bouzouki, as well as Bill M, and countless others!

While youŽre at Gruhns, check out the two Duff F-5s there, will you. IŽd appreciate a post on them. OneŽs new and the other is used (and on the website without a picture even).

    And yes, good luck.

Hey, I did go to that store. It was a bit overwhelming with all the stuff. I actually took a pic of my wife "playing" the huge banjo out front.

Hey Frank, I looked at Cotten's online inventory and didn't see it, but I'll ask about it if it's in my price range.

    Thanks!

Olaf, I tried one Duff while I was there this weekend. I'd rate it good playing and sounding. I wasn't too fired up about it but it's all subjective.

    Hi Beck:
I thought of you and your trip a few times this weekend while watching the weather channel. I hope that the torrential rains in Nashville didn't put too much of a damper on your weekend.

Ed, we escaped by the skin of our teeth. I've never seen that much rain before - and sustained. And we were camping too! If we had not been using GPS, we would be with the guests from the Opryland Hotel that are now sitting in a high school gym. We literally saw the police closing down the interstate behind us after we blasted thru a flooded section. God was looking out for us.

I am wondering if the shipping on my mandolin is going to be delayed.

    Thanks,

    Beck

I hope the Opry Mills Gibson folks have put the mandos on the top shelf.

    Shaun,

I got the Randy Wood 2 pointer at Big Joe's. I posted a new thread called something like "OK you guys were right, and thanks"
