    Default 'Lectric Time!

Spring has sprung. I can tell because the hedge needs trimming. My Vessel is in her creator's hands getting new frets and some other needed TLC for the next week.

Time to bust out the Fender FM-988, plug in to the Marshall combo, crank up the gain, and play along with Ronny McCoury and the Lee Boys.

Or Neil Young from Live Rust

I had a similar shift a few weeks ago. I sent my Clark back to Austin for a minor finish repair and K&K installation. That gave me a chance to spend some quality time with the other mandos. It was time well spent.

Daniel, did you make a decision on what pickup you want for the Vessel?

I'm looking into one of these:

And actually, much to my wife's joy, I pulled out the Strat too. Amazing how much fun guitar is these days. I have no idea what the heck I'm doing with it, but I like it.

Got the mandocaster and the Stratocaster hanging out side by side right now.

Just got an email from a US Dealer for Microvox.
$208.00 for the mic and the phantom power supply unit. I'll be posting my FJ collection on the classifieds now.

The pickup looks like a pretty handy design, but an RCA plug seems unusual. Seems like you'll need to find an adapter to 1/4".

C-dude .. I note the 1/4" is in the regulated power-supply that the cord in the picture plugs into.
those little condenser/electaret microphones fry if you over voltage them,

so manufacturers use other plugs to make the potential player error a wee bit less likely ..

It's like the DPA mic mounts, only cheaper. I'll be interested in hearing how this turns out.

Don't even break stride, go straight to Weld! I used to play as the fifth member of Crazy Horse quite a bit when my housemates weren't around a few years ago, always a good time.

And I second the "tell us how the mic sounds" emotion.

    Thanks Christian.

Taught a lesson today with the Fender mandocaster (FM-988). My student, who is 12 years old, said, "What instrument is THAT?" So I showed her the similarity to hers: 8 strings in pairs, one single coil pickup (she has a Rogue with a pickup), same scale length, etc.

Hafta say, I used a little Kustom Arrow 16 DFX, and got a very nice clean sound. Didn't try to overdrive.

Just ordered the Microvox violin mic and power supply. Will update via my blog. Hoping it's here for my next gig on the 7th.
