Default Pick grip talk old yet?:)

I have read quite a few previous posts on pick grip. The one photo showing a grip was very helpful. I still struggle with a 'loose" grip. All the books and video I've looked at talk about the importance of a loose grip. Is it just a matter of experimenting what works for the individual? How about gorilla snot? I'm still looking for a teacher. few lessons from. One on one would be great for this issue, and all the other questions I have. I'm in Spokane WA so wish me luck.

    Thanks for reading
    Patty

That Gorilla Snot really works. Picks grip like iron.

I don't always need it, but at a hot venue, under hot lights, playing for hours, it works.

Good luck, Patty! Pick re-grip is how I think of it. However I grip, eventually the pick moves until it is causing problems with my playing. Then it's a cute little one-handed shuffle to get the pick back in a playable position. I might loose a chop, but if playing melody or a break, a little pause, to breathe, so to speak, can be made to sound intentional. Sometimes. All the pick threads in the cafe world cannot make the pick stay absolutely in one perfect spot. No pick of super materiel or price is the magic bullet. I do the best I can, and try to have fun. Music is fun.

Dust up some violin rosin and put it on your fingers, voila, problem solved!

I know I'm doing it wrong, but am unsure of right and don't want to change to another wrong grip. Going to a Steve Kaufman mandolin seminar in Lawrence in mid April and getting advice from him about my pick grip is way high on the agenda.

As for gorilla snot, I've used it and like it, especially if I'm playing for a long time (e.g. square dance). But I must admit, my new Blue Chip pick doesn't slide and rotate much at all. Don't know why, but it just doesn't.
