Yeah, but does he play a recognizable melody?

In that case, I'd like to buy a recognizable melody. Daniels is no doubt an accomplished fiddler, but too often represents the "elbows and kneecaps" school of 125 notes per second flashiness. I'd prefer half the notes and twice the subtlety, feeling and nuance.
Yes it is a commercial, but there's no law against having decent music in a commercial...

C.D. is a mediocre fiddler at best. He also stole the melody for his mediocre "Devil...Georgia" hit song from Vassar Clements' "Lonesome Fiddle Blues".
Vassar remained the classy guy he was and let it ride, with the exception of an occasional reference to the piracy.
No CDB love here.
This was really supposed to be a post about his talent or lack of. It's just a funny clip. Sometime people put a little more then needed thought into something quite simple. Geez i hate to hear your opinion on their caveman commercials.
Not knocking the clip or the reason for posting it, and it is funny. I just think that putting Charlie Daniels out there to play a bunch of really fast notes, then say, "That's how it's done," is fiddle virtuosity for the non-musicians. Most of us (he said, snobbily) would prefer something a bit more musical, IMHO.
I think the cavemen are fine for what they are, but they don't showcase their bowling form and say, "That's how it's done." My verdict is still "elbows and kneecaps."

That's the Hollywood Way! They probably had 3 hours worth of takes with CD playing the whole tune straight, and they used the one take where they asked him to act like a wild man. To them it's not about the music, it's about the image of the bowhair flopping around and the crazy look in his eye that says don't mess with me, I play a MEAN fiddle. ;0)

I can't hear Sally Goodin there. Is it possibly an attempt at a small part of Fire on the Mt?
Charlie is a talented man. South's Gonna Rise Again is my favorite.
