    Mandolin Mandolin

There, I got it out of the way.
Anyone see this summer's Allman's tour?
I was there on 8/31 and have never seen them so hot. Derek and Warren's guitars were smoking like I haven't ever seen and I've seen the Brothers alot.
Oteil played a solo on his 6 string bass that was verging on classical guitar.
Anyhow- the reason for the post...
Walking in, I was offered a CD of the evening's show by a company called Insant Live. I paid the $25 and lined up with about 1000 others at the end of the show. In less than 10 minutes I was handed a 3 CD set. The sound quality is as good as any studio CD and it is so cool to relive the show driving home. I swear I could hear myself screaming.
I was thinking how cool it would be to have a Del McCoury band CD done by this outfit.
Thought I'd hip you all on a really cool new innovation.

Instant Live has been bought out by radio-behemoth Clear Channel Communications, and they have been claiming a patent on the concept of producing and selling "instant" CDs of live preformances. They've been sending lawyer's letters demanding other bands cease-and-desist.

Their patent is probably not enforcable in this way, but the letters ARE dissuading a number of smaller companies, who can't afford a legal battle with CC.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

    Hmmmm....

I recorded the Allmans in '69 at UC Riverside, and listened to it on the way home...

Guess there's nothing new under the sun...

Add Primus to the "instant live" thing, for another big name band. As if there weren't already enough reasons to HATE Clear Channel...
