    Most likely, Kay pioneered pressed tops.

    I saw and played one of these a few years ago at a mandolin summer school. It was set up as GDAE, with the same mother-of-toilet-seat headstock with KayKraft decal. It was really loud and strong on all courses, with a decent tone, plywood or not. Good catch for the winner.
