Was playing my 92 Flatiron F5 Artist this morning and found a crack around the neck between the fifth and sixth fret. It goes from the binding on the top about 3/4 of the way around. Could this be the shellac cracked? I noticed that the Dot was little distorted and upon inspection found what looks like a crack. The playability or tuning has not changed. Is this normal?
It cost no more to go first class...You just have to pay a little longer....

Can't tell without seeing it. Since you're concerned, take it to some one qualified, and that you trust.
I would expect a crack to run longways with the grain not the way you describe it. It sounds like a laquer finish crack but I would still take it to someone to confirm this.

Thanks for the input. I will be taking it to my local luthier this Saturday. It plays fine and does not get out of tune. Maybe I need to quit looking at it under a flouresent light.
