    Hello all,
It is with great pride, I share the news! After much hunting and research, I will purchase my new Gibson Master Model this Monday. Approved on December 15, 2003 and signed by none other than Charlie Derrington. I thank all of you for great wisdom and advice! I can hardly sleep.
    I'll post pics ASAP!

    Bluegraskid congrats,

I`m in the process of negotiating for one as well, and hopefully have it in hand next week. Will yours have the standard flat fret board? All my mandolins in the past have had radiused boards. Kinda looking forward to the flat for a change!!

I have never played one that didn't tickle my ear drums and make me smile. I hope you like the Loar F-5 sound and feel, because that's what you're getting. I hope to own one someday.

I offered to trade straight up for his old worn out mandolin . He wasn't the least bit interested! Imagine that.

They offered the mandolin to me at half of what I believe it is worth! I'm not kidding. These Master Models, distressed or not are fantastic. If I had the money, Charlie's distressed MM prototype would be mine! It sounds, feels, and smells like the best of the Loars. It is actually closer in sound to my 1923 than any other real Loar that I have played. They also had a brand new MM that was louder than any real Loar I have ever played...without any loss of the amazing tone!

Thank you for the kind words David. I'll have that two dollar check in the mail soon. . We like to think they are pretty special and I certainly would not want to be without my MM.

Yes I really liked the Distressd mandolin. Charlie handed it to me at SPGMA and I was expecting another loar he got and I said "What year? and he smiled and I looked at the label and it was the Prototype distressed Master. It had the look and feel and sound of a Loar. It sounded great, then I realized after the man with the Pagannoni that was setting picking to the left of me was David McLaughlin. #I was like I have seen this guy somewhere before but I don't know his name I better play dumb and and not ask him his name and look like a dunce. Then after he left I put 2 and 2 together and I was like. Hey man that was David Mclughlin!

The other master they had was very good and very loud but I feel in love with the distressed one.
