    Default Clark F5 #47 Wow

Heres a few pics of The Clark #47. I know Ive been one to rage over every mando I have posted on here but there comes a time when one has to take all that back..not that those previos mandos havent been fine, fine mandos and Ive enjoyed every one. Folks Im here to tell you that Ausitn has flat out nailed it. This mando is w/o a doubt the best new mando I have ever played. Besides its flawless beauty its very, very loud and each note has a huge presence. The tone is what Ive been looking for going on 30 yrs. Deep and woody with clear as bell highs and the sustain is on a stage of its own. The intonation is A+ and it plays like butter. Now I leave you with a few pics...Ive got to get back to playing. Im finding myself doing things on a mando that I didnt think I could. Enjoy. Red Spruce and lacquer finish. Sidebound, compound radius fingerboard, James tailpiece and Hyde glue construction

Beautiful work - very impressive! The woods are awesome ... Give us sound updates as you play it more (but your description already deadnail's what I like) ... Congrats, Scotti!

What a beauty! I was just looking at the Clark website today - I've love to get him to make me an oval A someday.

Congrats Scotti! You have to been long without a Mando. We have got to hook up and compare sometime.

Scotti- you are certainly not the only one who has been on this board raving about their Mandolins - perhaps the best known however

Seriously though, that is a BEAUTIFUL Mandolin. Good to see you back in the game.

Okay..Ive had almost 2 days to play the new puppy..the wife kept me busy with honey dos most of the day yesterday...prettiest day of the spring so far. Its only gotten better...actually..its pretty scarey. Ive never had a mandolin that the notes just jump off the fingerboard. Its very responsive..very in your face if you want it to be but subtle if need be. Ive forgot to mention that its very light and thats due mostly to carbon fiber rod instead of a traditional truss rod. I dont know if this has an effect on how a mando sounds but Im starting to believe it must. Its only 4 months old but it sounds like its been played in for years. Its very loose if you all know what I mean. How many of you have tuned a mando below standard and enjoyed the feel of the strings, tone and responsiveness and how loose it feels? Thats what Im talking about...only Im in standard tuning. Already Im comparing the tone to McCourys Gil, Dempseys Hutto..its got that fat, woody clear as a bell tone.
    Cheers!

It amazes me how many great builders we have. That Clark #47 has the kind of light starburst I like.

Yea..I really like the color of it too..just wish my camera skills were better because my pics really dont show the color as it really is..it perhaps a little darker all the way around.

Dempsey's Hutto? Wow! I plan on getting on Austin's list sometime in the future. I REALLY want one of his F5s. I would not sell my two point though, so it could be a while. Mine also has a full contact bridge, I like it.

I should clarify that this mando's bridge is not full contact..its got a gap in the middle between the top and the bridge. Not much of one but none the less its there.

Congratulations, Scotti! My Clark F5 (#27) is coming up on its first birthday, and it continues to sound better and better every time I play it (and it was a killer right out of the box, too). I still get comments about how good it sounds at my regular weekly old-time jams.
