looking for tab, music, or whatever
Hi! I haven't posted here in a while because the last time I asked this question I got blasted by a guy for asking but to be perfectly honest, I have looked and looked and only thing I can come up with is this:
"MY EYES SHALL VIEW"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3vSanDe1mE
I am trying to learn this song on Mandolin as I have heard it that way before. The link above is more of a country version compared to what I have heard. I have no idea who sings it or who wrote it.
Can anyone help WITHOUT blasting me for trying to learn!
Thanks...
Ace

Re: looking for tab, music, or whatever
Don't go away if someone gets a little onery. You have as much right to be here as anyone else. How they act says more about them than it does about you.
As for the song...I've looked at all my usual sheet music sources, and I don't find anything written for any instrument with that name. I see the youtube video is entitled "my eyes shall view" but do you think the song might have a different name? If it's an original song, then you're only going to get it by patiently, note by note, writing it down by ear. I'm not much help, but I wanted to speak up, so you wouldn't feel like you were being ignored...or blasted...just that no one is finding the music either.

Re: looking for tab, music, or whatever
Hey I appreciate that! As for the song, I think that is the title since know of a gospel couple (husband and wife team) that travel and sing. They don't play instruments but they did cut a couple cd's. On one of thier cd's they have this song and it is the same title!
I thought the same thing until I found the you tube song. I looked for "Walls of Jasper", "Streets of gold" and a couple other main lines from the song but only thing I found was the Title "My eyes shall view"!
Maybe if I can contact the couple that I got the CD from, they can inform me with more info.
Thanks again...

Re: looking for tab, music, or whatever
They're doing it in Gb which usually won't make you a lot a friends in a BG circle so if you're a bluegrasser I'd recommend doing it in a standard BG key.
Anyway the chord progression is
Verse I IV I V I IV I V I
Chorus IV I V I IV I V I
If you listen close the melody is the same as a whole bunch of country songs so if you can learn one of them this one we'll be a cinch. Just substitute the gospel lyrics for the drinking and cheating ones.

Re: looking for tab, music, or whatever
Just a google search trick...instead of searching for a title, search a line of the lyrics. If anyone has posted it anywhere on a lyrics website, it will show up, and usually with the CDs or where it's been recorded. From there, you might be able to find the music for it.

Re: looking for tab, music, or whatever
Hello Ace, welcome back!
I also have searched high and low and can't find any tab for this one. I think, like Youda said, it may be time for you to come up with a break of your own making. I don't know where you are at on the mandolin, you know, beginning, intermediate, or advanced but it's really not very difficult and, for me anyway, it's a process that develops over time...I call it 'Woodshed improvising'...as opposed to improvising on the fly.
My advice is to first get the basic melody down cold and then build it up from there. Start simply and then add, subtract or change it until you're satisfied. This may take a little time at first but the process speeds up after you've done it for awhile. I've done this alot although in reality, I seldom play it the same way more than a couple of times. It's fun, rewarding, and gets easier and easier over time. Tab's OK, but its not always the answer.
Oh and BTW, don't let the nasty ones bother you or keep you away...the overwhelming majority of Cafe folks are very nice and supportive...just give 'em another chance!

Re: looking for tab, music, or whatever
Hi Ace, the other thing you may be able to do is email the people that did the youtube thing and see if they will share the music with you or direct you to where they got it from. It's worth a try. The worst they will tell you is no. Just a thought. It's a neat song, I like it and I hope you find it.

Hi Ace, You could e-mail the folks that did that recording on youtube and maybe they would be willing to share where they got it from. The worst they will tell you is no. It's a nice song, I like it and I hope you find it. Good luck, and welcome back to the forum.
Sorry this got in there twice. I won't post any more early, early in the morning!
