Does anyone know who built this for him? Not that I could afford one just now, but, oh - how much do I covet that?!

Which one? Here's another. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_jO5JCS-eY
From emando.com, his mandolins and triple necks come from the Mason Brothers.

reminds me of those fish found in the water near where homer simpson works ...
wonder if he checks it in as carry-on hand-luggage when jpj has to fly ...
That information from emando.com is out of date. Andy Manson, who made the triple-neck, moved from there quite a while ago, and the workshop at Easterbrook is now the workshop of Brook Guitars. The guys who run Brook used to work for Andy, and they make very fine guitars.
Andy Manson - who makes extremely fine guitars, mandolins and other fretted instruments - is now based in Crediton in Devon, a short distance north of his former workshop. Here's a link to his website which includes up to date contact details:

Wow!!!! Andy Mason does some fantastic work! I like the neck joint design that he uses on that H5 Mandola that is pictured on his website.
I've always loved the triple neck too! I had no idea that it was an electric.
I wonder how long it takes him to change strings?

Wow that Mason is talented. I love this sycamore back.

And check out the carved sound-port on the OM/Guitar he built for Lief Sorbye. (Some close-ups are at the link Fliss provided.)
Talented? No.
Genius? Yes.

The Mermaid guitar is just insane, here's one pic. I suggest going to the site and soaking it in.

That's outrageous! It's even for sale. Where's Allen? That may be the one instrument he doesn't have yet.
After drooling all over Andy Manson's website all day, I believe he has become my new favorite luthier!
He's certainly creative.

I dare any married man to bring the Mermaid guitar home. In fact, I DOUBLE DOG DARE you!
Sorry, with all due respect to the genius, etc. but it just reminds me of this.
I played a double neck (mando/guitar) for the first time today at a friend's place. Still in the white, and it was awesome - comfortable, not cumbersome at all. When I think of double necked instruments, I think of JP in his dragon suit and all that, but this was a really useable instrument.
Well, he's moved again: flown the sceptred isle and set up shop in Portugal!
