Thread: Wendler 10 almost here!

    Default Wendler 10 almost here!

Final assembly on the 10 string electroMando that Dave Wendler has been building me should take place next week, and it would be an understatement to say I am VERY excited. Dave has been super throughout the process with his suggestions and expertise, and what I have heard of his instruments sounds spectacular. I am definitely attracted to the fact that these electric mandos still maintain qualities of their acoustic counterparts - I wasn't just looking for a small electric guitar, in other words. I have been using my regular guitar in "New Standard" tuning, i.e. CGDAEE, and I am looking forward to having the short-scale version of that same tuning to work with in this axe. Thanks for letting me ramble - I just needed somewhere to express my excitement!

    Dave,
Give us the specs, man. Scale length? Woods? Fret wire gauge? Nut width? Pickup? Wiring? Let us drool a little too.

O.K. - here is what I know now - more to come...

Woods: Natural Red Cedar body, Pao Ferro for fretboard, tailpiece, and peghead overlay
    Scale: Around 15"
Fretboard: 16" radius, Pao Ferro, jumbo fret wire
Electronics: Dave Wendler's "Mag-Pi" system, which includes an EMG dual-coil magentic pickup and a piezo built into the bridge.
    String Gauges: 10 14 24 36 52 (pairs)

I will be sure to share more pictures (maybe some sound samples) when the beast arrives...

Another pic from Dave Wendler. All that it lacks is the pickup (the first one was defective and is being replaced) and the pickguard / electronics box. Should be in my hands next week and I cant wait!

That should be very interesting! I have always thought his electrocoustic design was very cool!

    A quick update:
The mando arrived almost 2 weeks ago and I am STOKED! It plays like a dream - action is great, and the intonation is the most on of any instrument I think I have played. The light weight of the body makes it a joy to play and the tone is all that Dave Wendler claims. The simple combo of the magnetic and piezo pickups leads to a wide range of tonal possibilities. My left hand is doing pretty well with the adjustment to the extra course, and I am having fun with the added lower range on the instrument.

In short, I couldn't be happier, and foresee many, many exciting hours of playing on this mando in the years to come. Thank you, Dave Wendler!

    David,

Really nice!! Gotta look hard at getting one now,...

I don't see a truss rod. What is Mr. Wendler using to brace that neck?
    Thanks,
    Travis
