Question Smoothie Song (not a mandolin, is it?)

Just getting into Nickel Creek and ordered a Punch Brothers album.....anyway, my question is about "Smoothie Song".....LOVE this song, but is that not a mandolin that Thile is playing? Mandola or something else? Sounds too low-pitched....bummer, cause I'd love to learn this song!

It's a Flatiron octave mandolin. Several good shots of it in the video. Looks like this was filmed at Gruhn's, eh?

You can learn the song, just play it up an octave. That song drove me to acquire a Flatiron OM of my own.

Strange video with Rob Trullo (SP?) pretending to play the bass, I wonder if Byron House was ticked off at that?

Thanks for fixing my video post, Jamie. And faking or not I found it really neat that Rob Trujillo was there....I was like "what the...."

I need more mando practice, but the seed is probably already planted for snagging an OM someday. I need a second job!
