The finals of the 2008 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest come to Charleston,
W.Va., starting 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Cultural Center Theater
in the state Capitol Complex. The event is part of a weekend showcasing two
of the Mountain State’s exceptional homegrown music organizations which haveachieved international prominence -- Mountain Stage and NewSong Music.

The Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, presented by Folk Alliance, is one of
North America’s premier showcases of emerging performing songwriters in all genres of music, including pop, rock, folk, jazz, old-time, world music and many crossover styles. Contestants win appearances on “Mountain Stage," as well as cash prizes and performance and recording opportunities across the country and world.

The 2008 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest international finals, presented by Folk Alliance, come to the Cultural Center Theater in the state Capitol
Complex in Charleston, W.Va., on Saturday, Oct. 11, bringing some of North America's finest performing songwriters to the city. One grand prize winner will perform on a live Mountain Stage the next day on the same stage in a show featuring Patty Loveless, Solas, The Dan Tyminski Band, Chris Knight and acts to be announced. Tickets to the NewSong Contest cost $10 advance, $12 at the door. A special two-day pass is also available for $15.50, which include the Saturday, Oct. 11 finals and the Sunday, Oct. 12 Mountain Stage.
