Right, and as of a few months ago Roland still had the instrument. It's a real showpiece with elaborate inlays and carving, and it has excellent tone and volume-- one reason it's good to see Roland bringing it out occasionally to play.

When i was at a Baldasarri mando camp i asked Roland about that mando. He said Clarence had stopped to visit him in Nashville on the way to New York to record what would become The Byrds " Untitled " record. Clarence asked Roland if he knew of any good mandos for sale & Roland showed him this one that he had played & liked but didn't have the cash for. Clarence bought it & took on the road. The next day at class when Roland saw me he said " I brought that mando along you were asking about " So right there it was, i still remember the buzz i got playin that mando.
