Check out the Northern Illinois Bluegrass Associations web site. They list a calender of jams. If you become a member, they have a list of other members and contacts.

In the near Western 'burbs, check out the jam at the Saturday morning Farmer's Market in Oak Park. It gets too big sometimes, but there are some good pickers among the crowd.

I live in Lisle. Who knew? I'm not a hard-core Bluegrasser, I feel that's important to state. I do enjoy playing fiddle tunes,Blues,Jazz and anything out of the ordinary. If you want to correspond let me know your e-mail.

Someone should PM Dale Ludewig. Builder/picker in Dekalb, IL.

I'm about 2- 2.5 hours west of you.

I have been playing exactly one week tomorrow. Before I develop too many bad habits, I would like to see some proper mandolin playing! It would be great to go watch a group of you play and have someone to talk to. I would not be able to add anything musically to a "jam" but I could clap real loud!

A "Jam" might not be the best place to see proper form in mandolin playing. If you see 5 people picking, odds are that you'll see 5 different techniques. And maybe none of them that are "proper". A workshop or seminar might be a better source of mandolin picking technique.
