I just got my new Mandobird VIII from Bailey Bros (can I say their name?) in Montgomery AL. #

They didn't have one in stock, so I bought it sight unseen. #The pictures don't do it justice. #The finish is beautiful, the back, peghead, and neck have a colored stain that's kind of reddish purple; maybe mahogany and the wood grain shows through nicely. Nice tight grain under the sunburst finish too.

The frets are well finished with no burrs, and seem to be evenly set.

The rosewood fretboard is nicely done and feels good. #The action is probably medium.

Since this is my first electric mando, I wanted to put my toe in the water, and I'm very happy with the result.

I plugged it into my VOX AC15 and it sounds great. #Nice mandolin sounds; not guitar-like at all. #I didn't hear the problems others have described regarding the E string, or anything else either. #

On the flip-side, I can practice my cross-picking unplugged and not annoy my better half.

Bottom line...it makes me want to play the mandolin more often, and that's a good thing!
