I'm visiting relatives in Tillamook County, Oregon this week and I've got a mando along for the trip. Anyone know of jams in the area, or interested in getting together? Looking for intermediate to advanced pickers interested in bluegrass, gypsy jazz, and dawg-type stuff. Reply here for Private-Message me via the forum.

You cannot beat the Oregon Country Fair for a good time. (www.oregoncountryfair.org)

It is not a music festival per se - though there is over a dozen stages and probably 65+ incredible musical acts - but you can jam all day and night at this fest and find others of like mind if you have a notion too. There are tons of things to see, do, buy, touch and taste at the OCF.

I played this festival a number of times in the past with a (now defunct) acoustic swing band called the Chazz Cats and a finer festival and time you cannot have.

It would take yards of typing to explain just how cool this festival is - and I don't have time for that - but it's not too terribly far from Tillamook - probably 3 hrs drive down the coast to Florence and then East to Veneta.

It happens every 2nd weekend of July and seriously you shouldn't miss it if you have any possible opportunity to get down there.

    It's the best.

Too bad you won't be in Tillamook the last weekend in August. The Moograss Bluegrass Festival is then and is a fun event.

Sad news is that MooGrass has folded this year. Volunteer burnout it the culprit.

Well that is sad but there's always the Pig and Ford races. You don't need too many of us old hippies to keep things like that going.

I spent way too much time in Tillamook as a kid.

I went to Deep Sea Survival School on an island just of the coast by Tillamook when I was in the military. 19 days of eating sea food, we didn't suffer near as much as our instructors wanted us to. Turns out a couple of us were very strong swimmers, and we brought money. Corn meal, oil and tabasco sauce made raiding the commercial oyster beds close by our mission, we were good at it too.

Kind of adds a new meaning to the term "Tillamook Burn", don't it.
