Thread: "f" travelite fit a collings mt "a"?

    Hi, I have a Colings MT and want to get a Travelite Case. One day I may move up to an F (even though the MT is awesome).

    So I figured I'd get a Travelite for an F Style. Maybe a little strange...

    However, does anybody know if the Collings MT would be snug and secure in an "F" style Travelite?

    Thanks for baring with the random question...

    I use an F case for my A mandolin and it works just fine, in fact it gives me a nice space to roll up my strap where the scroll would have been. Seems like the typical overall outline of a mandolin (minus the scroll and points) is much the same whether it be an A or an F.

    I've been using a Travelite case for my Collings MT (with a Tone Gard and strap) for a couple of years and have been satisfied with it.

    Here's a link to the same one I got - it's only $49.99. #---> # travelite case

    I dont know why Travelite doesnt put that it will fit an A style mandolin in their ads. Their ad makes it sound like it will only fit an F style. I bought mine for my cheapo Beanblossom but ended up using it for my Flatiron A as my main case.

    It fits perfectly, and like mentioned earlier has a place to put a small polishing cloth or strap where the scroll woulda gone. It fits much better than the Bean, cause the Bean has extra tall sides, I suppose to give it some volume?

    I'll take it a step further. I wish Travelite would make an A case. I honestly think they'd sell a ton of them.

    My favorite case- wish my Phoenix would fit in one; my Mowry A style fits perfectly (it was cool to see Mike Marshall carrying his Loar around in one...)

    All they'd need to do would be to leave off the space for the points and the strap hanger.

    I'd keep the F shape and market the extra space as a place to put your strap, polishing cloth, extra pics.

    Now if they'd only put a very low profile pocket/pouch on the outside for stuffing a few papers.

    Anyone looking to put an A in a Travelite without making sure it will fit might be in for a surprise. I keep my Arches in a Travelite, but my Weber is too wide. I wish it would work because the Weber case is nice but weighs about 750 pounds.

    So far, my ex-Randy Wood 2 point, my ex-MT and MF and both Givens A's have fit perfectly in a Travelite F case. Some of the newer ones, like the $49 special from MF, seem to be made from a less "giving" foam than the old ones, but are still great cases. Good Luck, Frank

    I took my travel lite to L.A instead of my Calton, glad I did.
