Yup - just confirms that was 'mostly a reflection on me'.
Couldn't ever make it sound nice

I don't look down on the use of mandolin in any style of music, as long as its used tastefully. I like what I like, and it doesn't matter to me what genre it is. I'm a music lover and I don't limit myself to any particular genre. In my CD collection you'll find rock, blues, bluegrass, reggae, country, folk, soul, R&B, rockabilly, Cajun, gospel, classical........
I can't tolerate music that is hateful or demeaning. Unfortunately that includes some rap, hip-hop and death metal.

In addition to those rock acts mentioned already, I would add Davey Johnson on Elton John's Holiday Inn, and Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters, ( and possibly other EJ songs), as well as my fav, Dash Crofts of Seals and Crofts from a million years ago! Oh yeah, a couple of John Hiatt songs including Cry Love.
Garcia and Grisman do a wonderful take on Jimmy Cliff's Sitting Here in Limbo.I had no problem finding a role for mandolin in anything we played - with one exception - Reggae.
