Gone to this a few times and it seems like it is really starting to take off (high turnout inc. John Carlini!). Last night (June 5) was the first time I saw multiple mandolin people. Was wondering if anyone here has been or was actually there yesterday.

Yes it is an open jam on the first thursday of every month at menzel violins livingston nj, website is mofiddles.com. They may or may not post it every month under "doin's" but it goes down just the same. I've been 3 times. There have been more people every time I go, from the serious/good-time pickers to the very enthusiastic amateurs to the non-traditional instrument players who are interested anyway. 2 were great, but I left the other after about five minutes. The mix at that one trended too heavily toward the second and third categories for me to be fully engaged. It usually starts with an all-in-the-big-room session with one or two leaders that accommodates everyone and a after while when the crowd thins a little it breaks in to smaller groups that are interest-based. 2/3 great times ain't bad though, right? I definitely plan on continuing this and would recommend it to anyone as it seems there can be something for everyone there.
