Very nice Michael. My EM-5 is from the same batch. It arrived a little over a week ago. I like the scraped edge on your maple top. It's not as defined on the curly redwood. Do you notice much sonic difference between the hollow and solid EM-4s?

Here is a pic of mine.

    Hey, Charlie -

    Sonic differences:

Unless I'm playing loud (like feedback loud), the hollow body's unamplified sound contributes a surprising (to me) amount to the overall sound. Conversely, the solid body's sound is entirely from the amp(s). I'm experimenting with different tone settings. The solid body also has amazing sustain. I'm learning how to control it.

    Hope you're enjoying your EM-5.

Love the EM-5. I came to the same conclusion on the hollow body tone. I just didn't have a solid body EM-5 to confirm it. I'd describe it as semi-sweet and organic. The amp I have (Peavey Royal 8 5watt) is pretty clean as far as tube amps go and it does a nice job of delivering the tone.

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought it best to just add to this one. I wanted to show a couple of Mann EM's. The EM-8 is #36 born in Feb of 2006. The EM-4 is #66 born in Feb of 07. I guess they're cousins?

I don't bother with the tailpiece cover on the EM-8 anymore. Just keep it in the case

Ben, I didn't mean to do that to you...

Ice storm in W KY has cut me off from the real world...no electricity, no cell phone, no internet.
But I've been pickin and strummin in the dark (mando content)

I'm in Nashville today. A hot shower is a good thing. So is electricity.

Michael -- so how does the 2-point flat back sound? I'm seriously considering one (or possibly one of Mann's A style). Loud enough? Tone qualities?
