After a few weeks with TI starks I had to go back to J74's. I missed the brightness on the G and D strings. The TI's sound cool but didn't really cut playing with a bunch of pickers. Maybe I am just too accustomed to the sound of J74's after a couple of decadeds using them.

Yeah, the TI's are not heavy enough to put out the volume needed in a jam. As expensive as they are, one would think that they would make a medium-heavy gauge string.

I've been using the J74's for over 20 years and I love them. I'm currently using the EXP74's. They are awesome! They sound broken in, right out of the box!

I always find my way back to J- 74s. I think they are the best for me.

I gotta respectfully disagree on the EXP74's sounding broken in right out of the box. When I first put a set on, I hear all kinds of unwanted high overtones that I don't hear with J74's, and I think overall they have a kind of "brassy" tone I don't care for. It takes about two weeks of playing to get them to sound good my ears, longer than any other string I've tried. I have recently been using EXP77's on all my mandos and I like them better. They are the same gauge and coating as the EXP74's, but they are 80/20 Bronze versus Phosphor Bronze. They have a "drier" tone, meaning fewer overtones, and they are perhaps a little darker sounding, but still with a nice "edge" that cuts through in a group. Just MHO.
