John Bernunzio has a page up at http://www.bernunzio.com/ right now with photos of his recent trip to China to visit the Eastman factory in Shanghai (800 workers). I was interested in this photo of a new model that looks a lot like a Giacomel. Any info? Also has some headstock inlay beyond the mere "Eastman" name.

Hmm. I've just blown up the headstock, and I see that it says Giacomel on it. Will there be a Chinese Giacomel from the Eastman factory?

I think the best source on this is John Bernunzio himself. Speculation will surely be, speculative. I'm guessing by putting this out on his website means something, but what that is, only John can answer.

I would guess that would be going to Giacomel and not to Eastman dealers.

    I love to speculate.

Wait.... I'm much more concerned about this picture.... someone needs to stop them before it's too late!

Well at least they both look pretty disgusted with the idea of putting those five-string necks on. Hopefully they found a couple of tenor necks to limit the damage.

This is a perfect photo for a caption contest. I'll start it off:

There is an article about the January NAMM show in the current Acoustic Guitar magazine and there was a guitar that was made as a cooperative venture between Eastman and a Swiss luthier. I wonder if Giacomel is working on something similar.

If eastman are making them, then maybe I can afford one, but still probably not.

As for the banja photo. #The guy pointing to the head is saying...

OK, this is killing me. Is it possible that is an actual Giacomel for measuring purposes for the next overseas collaberation like the Montelone - Dawg mandos? If it is...reserve mine now!!

Maybe Giacomel sold rights for design?

Although it has been amusing to see the mass speculation, I have entered to set the record straight. Eastman has teamed up with The Dawg to produce a series of mandolins. The first of the series will be based on his custom Giacomel. This model will be a 3-way partnership between Eastman-The Dawg-Giacomel.

Why not? The Kentucky-Dawg-Monteleone collaboration produced one of the coolest production mandolins in recent memory. Can't wait to see what the Eastman-Dawg-Giacomel collaboration produces!
