    Hi,

I have a Stelling LS-5 that I bought back in the last century ( 1999 ). I think that after such a time it would benefit from a good set up and I also think that the bridge might need to be replaced ( it seems to lean slightly towards the fretboard side ).

Does anyone have any recommendations on where this could be done in Scotland?. My experience of music shops in Edinburgh is that they know very little about mandolins. A search of the builder database does not reveal any luthiers advertising a repair service. I live in central Scotland and would be happy to drive for an hour or two to get a good job done.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Would Moon Guitars be able to help? Try www.moonguitars.co.uk
If they can't help they might know someone who could. Or see who you could find on www.mandolin.org.uk

I was recently looking around for someone to refret one of my mandolins and Marshall Dow of Aberdeen was recommended to me by several people. I haven't got round to calling him yet, but I have his contact details somewhere.

No direct experience of them, but the website of The Violin Shop in Glasgow says they do repair work on fretted instruments. Their repair man, Bill McKenzie, is listed in the Cafe builders database.

Thanks for the replies so far. It looks like its just a case of phoning round and seeing who says they do this type of work. I was hoping for a recommendation from someone who had a setup done that they were happy with, but it looks like no-one does this or perhaps they do it themselves.

Perhaps that is the best way to go, but for someone who takes two hours to change a set of strings and every other time breaks an E string, I would rather have paid an expert!.

    Thanks anyway for your replies.
