A jig i wrote

i wrote a jig a while back that i cant seem to put a good sounding lilt on without it sounding goofy or losing the flow of the tune. ive posted it on youtube, and if anyone could either show me or explain to me how i could go about not running through it like a reel that would be great.

Well I enjoyed it, and I thought it did sound like a jig, but what do I know?

And wow, very fast playing. I could be on completely the wrong track, but one option to get more "bounce" into it might be to play it a little slower?

Maybe try putting a little more emphasis on the 1st and 4th beats of the measures? DudUdu with alternating pick strokes; DudDud is another way of playing a jig that just seems to provide that lilt. Beautiful tune and very nice playing.

After reading the comments on utube, all I can say is ..." astonishing".

thanks for the kind words. i am still working on it and will see what i can do with your suggestions. so far so good, slowing down definitely helps and the stress pattern definitely gives it a less "reel-y" sound.

If you can get into the 1-2-3 1-2-3 rhythm pattern, or at least have it in your head while listening, it sounds like a jig. #Sometimes the placement of the gracenotes (or just really quick notes) comes awkwardly, and sort of screws up the traditional jig feeling, but who needs that anyway? #Great tune!

On a second listening, it sounds like it starts in 4/4 as a reel, I think putting the accents in the right place would correct that.

Another thing to try is to simplify parts of the melody a bit, jigs tend to have a bit more space. Make sure your triplets are actually triplets as well. Slow down the tune and concentrate on making each set of triplets sound distinct. When you can do this, speed it up again.
