Posted these on the pictures thread, thought the emando squad might like to see them here. #My Jerman solid body, had it about a week, done some tweeking, really getting hooked. #My first "good" electric, after a Mandobird and KM300E. #Pictures are weak, but it looks good and sounds better. #I paid less than a hundred more than the cost of a KM300E or Mandobird, but it's way better in the tone, sustain, playability, and volume departments than either one I owned. #Andrew makes a great "working man's emando." #Not as fancy as some, but definitely a step up from the entry level instruments I've played. #Haven't played my Randy Wood for days, but it sure has been fun so far. #Frank

Mine will be much the same, except I asked Andrew to make the headstock a bit more Gibson-like.

    Frank,
Nice looking "Jerman" you've got there. Sure is nice to hear
your positive feedback. Andrew is a great guy.
May I ask, what style of music you play on it.?

Tom - Anything I'd play on my acoustic mandolin, but I tend to use a solid body to play like an electric guitar, so mostly rock. I'm a frustrated electric guitar player who never got anywhere with it, but mandolin makes sense to me, and I find it easy to play songs that were too difficult on the guitar. Lately I've been playing a lot of 70s rock, Mott the Hoople, Thin Lizzy, etc..., completely fuzzed out and as distorted as I can get. The Jerman has great sustain, and a pretty hot pickup, so it handles all that stuff great, but sounds equally nice clean, for more Tiny Moore type stuff. Thanks, Frank

    Frank,
Thanks for the reply. Im an acoustic guitar player at heart,
I have always loved the acoustic mandolin, but let others play them, I just love Guitar/Mandolin duets. I am new to the electric mandolin, I can do some blues on them but besides that Im lost. Glad to hear you enjoy them as you do.

Frank-- ever think of tuning your guitar in fourths? #I know that people like Stanley Jordan do it, so if fourths tuning makes more sense to you on mando, it may work on geetar too.

Edit: I just did a Google search on all fourths tuning, and found this:
    http://lilytears.com/arts/music/guit...intro/4ths.htm

I think I'm gonna try it on my own electric guitar later today.

Frussel, that's a nice lookin' emando.

And I can totally relate to the "frustrated guitar, mando makes sense" feeling, too. I was a violinist for about 12 years before I ever got my hands on a guitar, and the guitar's tunings just never made as much sense to me.

When I started playing the mandolin, everything fell into place, and when I got my first emando, it was like a bulb just went on.

Some of the stuff I played today: Queen, Steely Dan, U2, the Police, dirty blues, Hendrix, a little VH (sometimes, I've been working on Eruption), and Pink Floyd.

No Tiny Moore or Bill Monroe in there, I'm afraid.

A guitar is tuned in fourths, except for the G - B interval, which is a third.

    Mandolin is tuned in 5ths.

Well Duh-- I shoulda known that ! Last night I tuned my guitar in all fourths (which I gather is what a fair number of jazz players use, like Stanley Jordan). I was wondering why I couldn't play Irish tunes the same way I do on my mando, but was too tired to work it out. Makes sense now.
Me, I think I'll try all fifths on the guitar...
