I'm basically always looking to expand my horizons of knowledge. I've got the basics down, can read music, and know the fret board. Now I want to go further on so I think this book will help in that regard but I'm not sure. Anyone know of this one?

I have an old version of this book, with a price of $2.95 on the cover (1970s). I don't know if it has been updated. At the time, the book gave me a few insights that made playing easier, and some of the exercises improved my playing. The examples are mostly fiddle tunes, so I learned about back-up and fills elsewhere. A good book, but not as complete as others, and it may have more material now.

I too have an older version. It's pretty good, but beware that he presents some of the tunes in other than the "standard" keys they're traditionally played in.

I'd recommend Roland White's mando book instead (NFI).

I found that out from a new instructor when he was trying to determine my skill level and we each started a tune in a different key. However, that aside, it is the book my first mandolin instructor recommended to me and I enjoy it quite a bit and go back to it often. It has some great tunes in there and has helped me expand my repetoire and improved my fingering and sight reading. The CD it comes with plays them up to speed which has taken me a while to get up to.
