I should preface by saying I'm sure some people I know could do good work here in Los Angeles but I thought I'd see if anyone on the cafe could recomend someone with expert mandolin finese work...I have not your typical issues with acouple of my mandolins....If I had the time I'd go see David Harvey in Nashville ...he did great work for me a few years ago....but alas I'm on a time constraint...help if you can...thanks

Go see Greg Merkin at Shade Tree Music in Laguna, or contact Rick Turner for a referral.

Is he in Laguna now? I know Shade Tree ceased to exist as a retail shop in Mission Viejo awhile back; his website says Greg does his repair work out of San Juan Capistrano. I haven't visited the new shop yet; if you head down, please give us a report!

What about that guy in the shop above Guitar Row on Sunset, David Neely?

Most of the mandolin players in the LA area use Larry Brown. Call Boulevard Music in Culver City.

I was told recently that Larry Brown has retired.

    Hey everyone!

This is the most recent thread I could find on locating a mandolin repair person in/near Los Angeles. Most of the people I’ve turned up have moved, retired, or died. Nowell at living tree is on an extended vacation and Steve Sorensen is only building now. Anybody have any leads for anyone else?

    Thanks!!

    Mike

Nowell at Living Tree Music did a fantastic job on my instruments.
He does beautiful work, and makes fantastic instruments too.
    He is in the Valley.

Unfortunately he is on an extended vacation. Sounded like a few months. I’ve got a tour coming up and am hoping to find someone to sort my mando before I go. Anyone know anyone else? Trying to avoid just going to a guitar guy, haha.

    Thanks!

If all else fails, send it up to Gryphon. They know how to work on it.

    Hey all!

A few years later and figured I'd bump this thread again. I'm still in need of a good local repair person for mandolin setups. I've chased everyone in this thread to no avail and was wondering if anything has changed in the LA area. Thanks!

I had some great work done at the Folk Music Center in Clairmont. Very professionally done bridge installation and fretwork. I was quite pleased.

I ended up hooking up with Nowell Siegel at Living Tree Music up in the San Fernando Valley. He and his wife Annette are lovely and he did a great job on my newly acquired Weber Bitterroot. I'll snap some photos of it and post it on here soon.
